Fighting for the Soul, Part III

So what's the point of bringing up "ancient" history? Yes, all Republicans respect the memory of President Reagan. "But, things are different now. We really need to show we can work with Democrats. People are tired of divisive politics." Go back and think about the situation when President Reagan took office. We were only a decade away from the pending impeachment of President Nixon. Democrats still held a firm rule in Congress, AND WOULD UNTIL 1994! Yet Ronald Reagan was able to press forth at least the most important part of his agenda. No one since has been able to work their will successfully through our special interest laden Congress like he. That is why Republicans MUST look at their recent history to regain the successes of the eighties and nineties. Compromise with the Democrats can and will be used against you. Just ask George H. W. Bush after signing an increase in taxes after stating "READ MY LIPS. NO NEW TAXES!" Tomorrow is Super Tuesday. For conservatives to have a voice in this election, they must step up big tomorrow. Vote your conscience, but look at the issues! Don't follow attack ads and half-truths and outright lies. Vote for the candidate that most represents the issues you are concerned.

I appreciate the history lesson. We tend to remember the buzz words but not the content; they therefore become meaningless.
So.... who is a true conservative in the line-up of candidates?

That's the question. Huckabee is more of a populist type, whose fiscal and security ideas sound good to the populace, but will be very difficult to implement. He is a social conservative, however. McCain is a social conservative also, as well as being conservative on defense issues (except for immigration). Fiscally, he voted against the tax cuts twice, with his reasons for doing so being old school Galbraithian economics, meaning that supply side economics won't work. Romney is the most conservative of the bunch, but suffers from having held the governorship in the most liberal state in the country. And Ron Paul is actually a libertarian in republican clothing. If I had to pick one as most conservative, I would have to say Romney.
